Youth Climate Dialogues

GCE was founded with the aim of bringing EU decision-makers and young Europeans closer together. One of our main tools to achieve this is through youth climate dialogues: spaces where youth and decision makers meet to discuss specific policy issues. Since 2020, we have organized dialogues with representatives form the Council presidencies, the European Parliament, and various commissioners.

The dialogues have touched topics such as the EU emission trading system, a just transition in the EU, intergenerational fairness, decarbonisation of the food system, access to housing, and more. Thousands of young European have been involved, as well as EU politicians from across the mainstream political spectrum.

Since 2024 we have also been working with various national and local organisations to host youth climate dialogues at local and national level, through our Funding Fairer Futures Project.

Commission dialogues

We hosted our first commission dialogue in the fall of 2025: an intergenerational dialogue with Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport. The event brought together representatives form different generations, as well as future generations, to explore policies related to intergenerational fairness.

In the spring of 2026 we hosted a youth housing dialogue with Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing. This time we brought over 40 young Europeans from across the continent together with the  commissioner and other representatives for DG CLIMA, to discuss access to housing for youth and responses to the ongoing energy crisis.

European Parliament Dialogues

The European Parliament Dialogues aim to strengthen relations between young Europeans and their representatives in the European Parliament through regular dialogues on key policies.

Council Presidency Dialogues

The Council Presidency Dialogue brings together environmental ministers from the Council Presidency and selected young people who represent youth perspectives on environmental issues. We hosted these digital dialogue with all the council presidencies between the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2023, as well as the Polish presidency in 2025.

Local and National Dialogues

Dialogue is important at every level – from the very local, to the global. Since 2024, we have been supporting local and national organisations to organise their own dialogues with their own representatives, through the Funding Fairer Futures project. So far we have engaged more than 180 decision-makers across 6 European countries.
