About Us
Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest climate coalition of youth-led networks at the European level, pushing for stronger action from the EU on climate and environmental issues. GCE brings together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. Uniting European youth networks, GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe. GCE envisions a system that respects human rights and the planet, that includes the voice of youth and acknowledges our common, but differentiated responsibility in achieving a carbon-neutral and sustainable world.
About the Role
Under the commitment of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, the European Commission released the first EU Nature Restoration Law in June of 2022. The ENVI Committee has come up with a draft report at the end of last year, and now the law is currently being debated in the European Parliament and the Council. Voting of the Nature Restoration Law will be held in May of this year. Protecting nature is not enough anymore, and we need to restore degraded ecosystems and lost species. Restoring nature is also a matter of intergenerational justice.
It is crucial to implement urgent action to restore our environment now, to prevent reaching tipping points and shifting the burden of actions to future generations. Young people need to be empowered and equipped with knowledge on nature restoration and nature restoration law.
The candidate will lead the team on nature restoration. The team aims to 1) actively engage young people and youth organisations in the development and adoption of the Nature Restoration Law and 2) advocate on the amendments to the Nature Restoration Law that place an emphasis on young people and youth engagement. The total amount of time estimated for this role is around 6 hours per week.
