About Us
Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE unites the largest youth-led networks, bringing together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe. GCE envisions a system that respects human rights and the planet, that includes the voice of youth and acknowledges our common, but differentiated responsibility in achieving a carbon-neutral and sustainable world.
About the Role
We are looking for a new coordinator who is excited and ready to lead the work of our teams and oversee the delivery of our two projects in the Just Transition Working Group. Making sure that climate actions are just for the groups that are most affected by climate change is an essential element of GCE’s call for climate action, and we are working on it by following the energy and housing crises, the discussing around just transition in the field of work, and how the EU addresses its internal inequalities, including the gender dimension. Together with one other Coordinator, you will lead the Just Transition Working Group and oversee the work of two exciting projects:
- Just Transition Framework: Our mission is to amplify youth voices, and ensure that social dimensions – such as employment, education, and inclusion – are part of a truly just transition. We aim to raise awareness on the situation of vulnerable youth communities and the importance of just transition policies, promote inclusive practices and successful examples of stakeholder engagement strategies that involve youth at all stages of policy-making, and help identify gaps where youth are not being consulted or included in the just transition process at the EU and national levels. Policy debates at EU level are moving, including discussions that may lead to a Just Transition Directive. As these frameworks develop, we aim to raise awareness on youth-specific access to green jobs so that policies on green skills and labour market transitions reflect young people’s realities.
- Energy Poverty & Housing: Young people, especially those in vulnerable situations, are frequently overlooked in public policies addressing energy poverty and housing insecurity. In our Youth Energy Poverty (2024) report, the majority of surveyed young people expressed concern about meeting their energy needs and accessing adequate, affordable, and healthy housing. The Energy Poverty & Housing project aims to raise awareness of how energy poverty disproportionately affects young people, particularly those in vulnerable situations and women, advocate for improved collection and use of age-disaggregated data to expose the scale and nature of youth energy poverty, as well as for meaningful youth participation in the design, implementation, and monitoring of key policy processes on housing and poverty.
Please note that this is a volunteer position with a minimum required commitment of 6 months.
