Project Officer on Sustainable Organisations

About Us

Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE unites the largest youth-led networks, bringing together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe. GCE envisions a system that respects human rights and the planet, that includes the voice of youth and acknowledges our common, but differentiated responsibility in achieving a carbon-neutral and sustainable world.

About the Role

You would be part of our new Education & Skills Working Group, working on the delivery of one of our new projects – the one focusing on Sustainable Organisations.

If you consider applying you would likely agree that education is at the heart of societal change – and undeniably, our education systems are not fit to teach young people about the interconnectedness of crises, empower them to discover their political agency and provide them with the skills to tackle the climate crisis. With the European Year of Skills (2023), GCE has put increased emphasis on the need to equip young people in youth organisations to recognise and act upon the intersection of education, skills and climate.

In this role, you will work on a new exciting project on Sustainable Organisations. You will work in a team with the project lead and the two working group coordinators who will support you in your work however they can and link you to the rest of GCE.

You will collaborate with our Member Organisations, particularly those focused on education and skills (e.g. European Student Union, Erasmus Student Network, OBESSU). The goal of this project is to empower and assist young people in organisations to better understand the interlinkages between the climate crisis and their work and equip them to act upon it.

Tasks

Supporting the working group’s work in 2023 on:

  • Developing a handbook for Member Organisations on sustainable event planning and management
  • Organising and potentially delivering trainings to build green competencies for Member Organisations in collaboration with our trainings team
  • Connecting Member Organisations to other stakeholders in Europe working on education for sustainable development.

For this, the operational task are to:

  • Actively participate in the project meetings (around 1 weekly meeting).
  • Develop relationships with Member Organisations and other partners to advance the education and skills agenda.
  • Attend working group meetings to update and liaise with the education advocacy project team.

About You

  • You have a strong interest/experience in education and skills development
  • You are a proactive and motivated person with good people skills
  • You have good time management and organisational skills.
  • You can work remotely and have reliable internet and computer access.
  • You are connected to the European context
  • You are available for 2-4h per week
  • You are connected to the European context: as we focus on EU advocacy, we welcome applicants with an interest and general understanding of how the EU operates and/or a European background that facilitates this knowledge.
