About the Role

According to the last EEA report, the majority of species and habitats in the EU are in poor or bad conservation status. It is clear that protecting is not enough any more, we need to restore nature. Following the commitment of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and adoption of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation. To be fair from an intergenerational perspective, GCE believes that youth should be included in the implementation of these policies.

In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Nature Restoration Project Lead and with a team of other volunteer project officers to keep advocating the EU youth position, while engaging in various activities of raising awareness on the importance of ecological restoration and engaging with relevant actors. The total amount of time estimated for this role is around 4 hours per week.

Please note that this is a volunteer position.

Tasks

  • Attend and actively engage in the weekly meeting;
  • Map relevant stakeholders and draft emails.
  • Research on relevant issues.
  • Contribute to position and policy papers.
  • Write concept notes.
  • Assist in the organisation and execution of events.

About You

  • You understand the importance of restoring the EU’s nature.
  • You have basic knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.
  • You are a motivated and committed person.
  • You can work in a team.
  • You are able to respect deadlines.
  • You can work remotely and have reliable internet and computer access.
  • You are connected to the European context: as we focus on EU advocacy, we welcome applicants with an interest and general understanding of how the EU operates and/or a European background that facilitates this knowledge. It is preferable that you are based within a timezone that is -2 or +2 from CET/CEST as it is our main working territory.

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of EU institutions and its decision-making processes.
  • Previous experience in advocacy.
  • Previous experience in working in NGOs.
  • Knowledge of EU environmental legislation like the nature restoration regulation.
