About Us

Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE unites the largest youth-led networks, bringing together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe. About the Role

You would be part of our new Education & Skills Working Group, working on the delivery of one of our new projects – the one focusing on advocacy for education for sustainable development. 

If you consider applying you would likely agree that education is at the heart of societal change – and undeniably, our education systems are not fit to teach young people about the interconnectedness of crises, empower them to discover their political agency and provide them with the skills to tackle the climate crisis. With the European Year of Skills (2023), GCE has put increased emphasis on the need to involve young people in discussions on the intersection of education, skills and climate.

In this role, you will lead a small team of 1-2 Project Officers on a new exciting project on advocacy for Education for Sustainable Development.  You report to the two working group coordinators who will support you in your work however they can and link you to the rest of GCE. We want to give people a chance to really grow in this role, but it is beneficial if you have some experience in chairing a meeting and structuring work processes. 

For the project, you will monitor and facilitate youth engagement in the implementation of last year’s Council Recommendation on “Learning for the Green Transition and Sustainable Development” in the EU Member States.  You will also continue to advocate for the transformative change of education systems in Europe among decision-makers.

Tasks

Supporting the working group’s work in 2023 on:

• Organising at least two dialogue events for different EU regions with youth and national policy makers to monitor the implementation of the Council Recommendation.
• Advocating for stronger inclusion of youth voices in the education system and putting transformative education on the EU agenda.
• Engaging with and in the work of the European Economic and Social Committee to mainstream education for sustainable development further into EU policies.

For this, the operational task are to:

• Plan and moderate the project meetings (around 1 weekly meeting).
• Develop relationships with Member Organisations and other partners to advance the education and skills agenda.
• Attend monthly Project Lead-Coordinators Call to update and liaise with other GCE working groups as well as the operations team and GCE board.

About You

• You have a strong interest/experience in education and skills development
• You have some basic knowledge of EU institutions/EU policy.
• You are a proactive and motivated person with good people skills
• You have good time management and organisational skills.
• You can work remotely and have reliable internet and computer access.
• You are connected to the European context: as we focus on EU advocacy, we welcome applicants with an interest and general understanding of how the EU operates and/or a European background that facilitates this knowledge.
• You are available for 3-5h per week

It is preferable that you are based within a timezone that is -2 or +2 from CET/CEST as it is our main working territory.

Bonus Points

• You have previous research or experience in the field(s) of: climate, European policy, youth advocacy, and education and skills development.
• You have previous experience leading a team.
• You have an extensive network within the field(s) of: climate, European policy, youth advocacy, and education and skills development.
