Volunteer as: Nature-Based Solutions Project Lead

About Us

Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest climate coalition of youth-led networks at the European level, pushing for stronger action from the EU on climate and environmental issues. GCE brings together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. Uniting European youth networks, GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe. GCE envisions a system that respects human rights and the planet, that includes the voice of youth and acknowledges our common, but differentiated responsibility in achieving a carbon-neutral and sustainable world.

About the Role

Due to the ongoing impacts of climate change on nature but also on humans, it is important to consider nature-based solutions (NbS) as part of the process of climate change mitigation and adaptation policies. Nature-based solutions are efficient measures used to integrate nature in different settings, such as cities and rural areas. It can therefore be seen as a solution to nature restoration, but also to reducing the carbon footprint in cities. The positive effects of nature-based solutions include reducing urban carbon footprint, cleaner air, promoting carbon sinks, promotion of blue and green infrastructures, promotion of green care (mental health, physical health). As urbanisation is growing, it is expected that by 2050, 80% of all Europeans will live in cities. Youth can play a major in promoting nature-based solutions to contribute to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss in cities.

The nature-based solutions project lead will lead the team on nature-based solutions. The team aims at 1) making youth aware of nature based solutions and how they can contribute to transforming areas, especially cities, into resilient, healthier, rewilded and greener environments, and how youth can be a part of those solutions and 2) advocating for increased implementation of nature based solutions in large EU cities, in a way that includes youth.
