Volunteer as: Communications Officer for the Advocacy Team

Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE unites the largest youth-led networks, bringing together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe.

About the Role

The Advocacy Team interacts with the EU institutions (European Parliament, European Commission, Council of the EU, and the EESC) with the aim to influence EU decision-making on climate and environmental issues. The team monitors the work of the EU institutions, establishes contacts with members of the European Parliament, and organises Youth Climate Dialogues with each of the institutions.

As a Communications Officer, you are part of the Communications Team and you will work in close cooperation with the Advocacy Team, where you will take the lead on the communication aspects of GCE’s advocacy towards the EU institutions and dialogues with EU decision-makers.

Please note that this is a volunteer position.

Tasks

  • Develop a communication and social media strategy about how to communicate about our work with the EU institutions and new policy developments on the EU level, operating as an intermediary between the Communications Team and the Advocacy Team.
  • Create social media content about GCE’s advocacy towards the EU institutions on GCE’s communication channels;
  • Create graphic designs according to GCE’s digital style; and
  • Keep content up to date on the webpage of the Advocacy Team.

About You

  • You have previous experience in digital communication (for example through volunteering, education or professional experience).
  • You possess a creative mind and are skilled in digital communication and graphic design (i.e. using Canva).
  • You are able to deliver content as expected based on previously agreed deadlines.
  • You are aware of which content is appealing to a youth audience.
  • You can work remotely and have reliable internet and computer access.
  • You have an interest in climate and environmental issues.
  • You have at least a basic understanding of how the EU works.
  • You are fluent in English.
  • You are able to commit 3 to 5 hours per week.
  • You are connected to the European context: as we focus on EU advocacy, we welcome applicants with an interest and general understanding of how the EU operates and/or a European background that facilitates this knowledge. It is preferable that you are based within a timezone that is -2 or +2 from CET/CEST as it is our main working territory.

Bonus Points

  • You have a good understanding of European politics.
  • You have video editing skills.
