Read more about the GEN C project
The ‘GEN C: Empowering Youth Voters on Climate’ project aims at empowering young people, in particular first-time voters, with knowledge and skills to mobilise young people and youth organisations from their communities in the European Parliament elections.
2024 is a crucial year for democracy with the biggest number of elections happening around the world. Between the 6th and 9th of June 2024, the European Parliament elections will take place for the 10th time across the 27 EU Member States.
The latest predictions show that 1 in 5 young people between 18 and 34 will stay at home and not vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections in 2024. Young people play a key role in democracy. As consistently shown, climate and environmental issues are at the top of young people’s priorities and concerns. Youth has been at the forefront of pushing for ambitious climate action, and a driving force behind the European Green Deal.
The ‘GEN C: Empowering Youth Voters on Climate’ project aims to:
- Empower young people and youth organisations to organise civic engagement activities to mobilise their communities to vote in the European Parliament elections.
- Support the engagement and mobilisation activities of national youth organisations and youth changemakers on democratic participation in the run up to the European Parliament elections and in the final voting phase.
3. Educate young people about the EU, the role of the European Parliament and how to vote in the European Parliament elections in their respective Member States.
FAQs
1.I am not from Belgium, Poland or France. Can I still participate?
Yes, as long as you are a resident in one of the EU Member States you can participate. However, the in-person activities supported with funding will be focused on Belgium, Poland and France.
2. Do I have to organise my activities in English?
No, you can organise activities and create content in your own language.
However, we require you to have a good level of English to be able to follow the training sessions and to communicate with us, as this will all be in English.
3. I want to organise something with my friends, my school or with an organisation. Can I do this as part of the empowerment programme?
It’s always nicer to do things together, so we encourage you to work together with others – your classmates, friends, school or a local organisation.
