As part of the European Green Deal (EGD), the European Climate Law (ECL) outlines the EU’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and legally binds the EU to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
“The EU aims to be climate-neutral by 2050 – an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. This objective is at the heart of the European Green Deal and is a legally binding target thanks to the European Climate Law” (European Commission, 2023)
