This paper describes GCE’s position to address clean mobility at the European and national levels with the aim of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The reliance on fossil fuels and the unequal emissions between citizens are described to explain how we can better tackle emissions from transport sectors. Transport represents 25% of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions and without adequate legislation, this figure could further increase over the next years.
The European Commission has detailed its vision for the development of European mobility between today and 2050 in its Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. Whilst we welcome its emphasis on greening mobility, important work still needs to be done by policy-makers. To clarify GCE’s recommendations on clean mobility, this position paper offers proposals to make each transport sector more sustainable. Solutions are highlighted to adequately respond to the urgent need for sustainable mobility transition and act on the promises of the European Green Deal.
