GCE welcomes the European Commission’s proposal for a Soil Monitoring and Resilience Law as a significant step towards environmental sustainability. This reaction paper emphasises three key demands that value GCE’s position on the SML. First, more focus on youth is demanded within the law, to underline the importance of intergenerational justice in protecting future generations from soil degradation. Second, legally binding targets are needed to set intermediate goals and mandatory soil biodiversity criteria. And lastly, GCE recommends financial schemes to promote trainings and skill sets among young professionals.
