GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe.

About the role

New Economy is a cross-cutting, overarching program at Generation Climate Europe which aims to support the inclusion of young people within beyond growth debates about topics such as economic transformation, sustainable resource use, and intergenerational justice. The Research team will conduct primary and secondary research to identify opportunities and strategies to engage youth across Europe in re-shaping our current economic system. Specifically, they will work closely with the Advocacy and Outreach team to develop a policy brief on best practices for engaging youths in beyond growth topics. Additionally, they will contribute to producing high-quality research outputs on the nexus between intergenerational justice and resource extraction and mining, with a focus on sufficiency, by centering experiences of youth affected by resource injustices globally.The Project Lead will lead the team and all the activities and deliverables involved, as well as manage communication with other teams at GCE and outside.

Tasks

  • Update regularly and collaborate with the New Economy coordinators
  • Collaborate with the Communication Officers to communicate the team activities on GCE social media channels
  • Map youth organisations and young individuals active on beyond growth issues identifying best practices for youth engagement.
  • Organise and moderate bi-weekly team meetings with your team
  • Conduct primary and secondary research on alternative economic models, and youth engagement around new economy/beyond growth/postgrowth/degrowth in the context of EU and international policy
  • Lead the development of publications, policy briefs and reports and their targeted dissemination
  • Collaborate with other teams within the New Economy Programme
  • Attend regular programme-wide calls with the coordinators and other teams in the New Economy programme.

About You

  • Available to work remotely for around 4-6 hours a week (flexible).
  • Confident with the Google Suite and/or Office Suite.
  • Experience in coordinating people/projects/organisations.
  • You are motivated, organised and reliable.
  • You are a good and confident communicator, you feel comfortable leading meetings and presenting your progress within the New Economy team and wider Generation Climate Europe organisation.
  • You are curious and proactive in bringing in your ideas.
  • Basic knowledge of EU policy and decision-making processes.
  • Basic knowledge of alternative economic models and beyond-growth theories.
  • High proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • It is preferable that you are based within a timezone that is -2 or +2 from CET/CEST as it is our main working territory.
  • Have a positive attitude and a genuine motivation to change our current economic system.

Bonus Points

  • Academic or practical experience with EU economic policy and alternative economic models.
  • Primary and secondary research experience.
