About Us
Generation Climate Europe (GCE) is the largest coalition of youth-led networks on climate and environmental issues at the European level. GCE brings together 381 national organisations across 46 countries in Europe. We are guided by the voices of over 20 million young Europeans. GCE creates a platform for the youth to advocate for a just and green transition in Europe.
About the Team
The Just Transition Mechanism and the Social Climate Fund Regulation are pivotal components of the EU’s strategy for achieving a fair transition to a low-carbon economy that does not disadvantage vulnerable communities. The Just Transition Mechanism supports regions, industries and workers most affected by the transition away from fossil fuels, while the Social Climate Fund focuses on vulnerable groups, exposed to energy or transport poverty. However, despite their crucial roles, there is a significant lack of meaningful youth participation within these mechanisms and their national implementation. Young people often find themselves excluded from decision-making processes, undermining the effectiveness and inclusivity of these mechanisms. Without active youth engagement, there is a risk of overlooking innovative solutions and critical insights. To maximise the impact of the Just Transition Mechanism and the Social Climate Fund, it is imperative to address this gap by fostering meaningful youth involvement. Creating avenues for young people to contribute their perspectives, ideas, and expertise will make these mechanisms more responsive and effective in achieving their objectives. Empowering young people to play an active role in shaping the transition will not only ensure that their needs and concerns are adequately addressed but also harness their potential as agents of positive change in building a greener and more equitable future for all.
Please note that this is a volunteer position.
