Reducing urban transportation emissions is an urgent challenge due to its contribution to climate change and carbon inequality. What's more, poor air quality and noise pollution disproportionately affect low-income households. Failing to reduce emissions now will ensure more young people grow up with ill health from air pollution, leaving them vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
This policy paper outlines the importance of cities in decarbonising urban mobility, the challenges of decarbonising transport and the expected effects of the recent EU initiatives on reducing emissions of transport and how they should be improved.
