Youth

for Zero Emissions Urban Mobility

The “Youth for Zero Emissions Urban Mobility” is a campaign developed by Generation Climate Europe: Many cities still rely too much on travel by car, even though it contributes to busier streets, greater pollution of the city itself, and climate change on a global scale.

In December 2021, the European Commission published a new Urban Mobility Framework which outlines its strategy to improve sustainable transport in cities. At a grassroots level, there is also a strong push for getting cars off cities’ roads and creating strong sustainable alternatives: the Clean Cities Campaign brings together many of these initiatives.

On both the policy level and the grassroots level, it is crucial that the voices of the youth are heard, as it is young Europeans who will travel in future using the modes of transport for which the groundwork is laid today.

Policy Paper

This policy paper from the Clean Mobility Working Group outlines the importance of cities in decarbonising urban mobility, the challenges of decarbonising transport and the expected effects of the recent EU initiatives on reducing emissions of transport.

Online Dialogue

On September 7th, 2022 Generation Climate Europe held the online dialogue on “Decarbonising Urban Transport: An intergenerational Discussion”. The event brought together various policy, youth, non-governmental and business actors, to discuss current challenges and solutions for decarbonising urban mobility at the EU level.
